The “Blue Atlantic Forum” (BAF) of Baiona has been included in the list of the top 100 responsible tourism initiatives of 2024 by the international organization Green Destinations. The announcement was made at the Green Destinations Top 100 event, which celebrates and promotes innovative sustainability practices in tourism around the world. This sustainable tourism forum is the only Spanish project that appears on the list, competing with proposals from 42 countries. The selection criteria took into account elements such as the quality of the story, its transversality, its level of innovation and the presence of all the pillars of sustainability.
The “Blue Atlantic Forum” reflects the commitment to combine tourism growth with environmental preservation and seeks to position itself as a reference for a “blue” destination in Spain. The mayor of Baiona, Jesús Vázquez Almuíña, highlighted the forum’s focus on the blue economy, which promotes economic and sustainable development based on marine resources.

With the support of the Xunta de Galicia, the European Union and other entities, BAF brings together experts in blue governance, entrepreneurship and innovation to explore responsible solutions in sectors such as marine renewable energy, fishing, tourism and biotechnology. The event also facilitates collaboration between professionals from different areas, becoming a platform to generate new opportunities in the blue economy.
In March 2025, the best initiatives from the Green Destinations Top 100 list will compete at the ITB Berlin for the “Green Destinations Story Awards”.
