The demand for technological profiles in the tourism sector is growing

  • 49% of companies have seen an increase in demand for this type of profiles in the last three years, according to Turijobs.

The Spanish tourism sector is experiencing a profound digital transformation, driven by a 40% increase in technological investment, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) collected by Turijobs. This change is leading companies to increasingly look for specialized profiles in areas such as artificial intelligence, reservation management, cybersecurity and data analysis.

A recent report by Turijobs, titled “Evolution of technological profiles in the Spanish tourism sector”, based on surveys of more than 300 companies from various subsectors, reveals that 49% of companies have seen an increase in demand for technological profiles in the last three years. However, 27% have not perceived this increase and 23.3% are not sure about it.

Growth and challenges in hiring

In the last three years, 82% of companies have hired between 0 and 5 technological profiles, while 8% have added between 6 and 10 people, 7% more than 20 and 3% between 11 and 15 professionals. Over the next three years, 76% of companies plan to hire at least five new technology specialists, underscoring the trend towards greater digitalization in the sector.

Demanded technological profiles

Tourism companies are mainly looking for engineers in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, virtual and augmented reality, business intelligence, blockchain and UX/UI design. Process automation is the most in-demand technology, followed by artificial intelligence and data science.

Despite growing demand, 38% of companies have experienced difficulties finding the right profiles for their digital transformation. Additionally, 55% of companies are incorporating technology into traditional roles, reflecting a trend toward modernization and digitalization of conventional tasks.

Investment and training

The Turijobs report also highlights a key detail: 47.7% of companies consider that they are not investing enough in technology. This lack of investment translates into an absence of key roles and technologies for digital transformation. Furthermore, 42% of companies do not have a team or person in charge of digital transformation, and more than half do not offer technological training to their employees.

In conclusion, among tourism companies there is a general perception that technological advances are of crucial importance for their success. But there is still a lack of conscious investment in this technology, training and human resources management.
