Almost 40,000 Galicians have benefited from the #QuedamosenGalicia vouchers during its three editions.

The initiative started in 2020 at the initiative of the Xunta and the Cluster to reward the work of health workers during the pandemic and was extended in 2021 and 2022 to the rest of the population.

Last year there were 7,400 beneficiaries for a total of 25,000 applications and the expenditure made exceeded 3 million euros.

The director of Galicia Tourism, Nava Castro, took stock of the three years of the campaign before the Sixth Committee of the Galician Parliament.

The balance of the three editions of the #QuedamosenGalicia tourist cards was the focus of the speech made this week by the director of the Galicia Tourism Agency, Nava Castro, in the Sixth Committee of the Galician Parliament. Castro detailed that during these three years there have been almost 40,000 Galicians who have benefited from these vouchers initially launched in 2020 by the Xunta and the Galicia Tourism Cluster to reward the efforts of health workers during the pandemic of covid and that in 2021 and 2022 were extended to the entire Galician population.

The head of Galicia Tourism explained that last year more than 25,000 Galicians applied for the vouchers and that, in the end, just over 7,400 people benefited from them, thus spending more than 3 million euros in the sector.

He also broke down the use of the vouchers by province, stating that 42% were used in establishments in Pontevedra, 24% in A Coruña, 20% in Lugo and 12% in Ourense, with the Augusta hotel in Sanxenxo being the most popular accommodation, with some 400 operations. She also said that more than 110,000 euros remained unused and 138 requests for refunds of 34,000 euros were registered.

Nava Castro pointed out that the #QuedamosenGalicia vouchers have marked “a turning point in boosting the Galician tourism sector and economic recovery” and highlighted the good reception they have had over the last three years, not only in terms of the number of beneficiaries, but also in terms of the number of participating companies. In fact, during the last edition almost a thousand businesses in the Galician tourism sector, with hotels as the most represented segment (323), participated in the campaign.
