The town of Campo Lameiro in Pontevedra has been chosen as Capital of Rural Tourism 2023. The contest, promoted by Escapada Rural and which is now in its seventh edition, has as its main objective to give visibility to municipalities that are committed to quality rural tourism.
Campo Lameiro, the first Galician town to receive the award, won with 16.9% of the votes against Candelea (16%), Zerain (12.4%), Colmenar de Oreja (10.7%), Nalda (10.3%), Bocairent (10%), Cardona (6.8%), Elche de la Sierra (6.5%), Segura (5.4%) and Ricote (5%). The municipality collects the baton from the town of Carzorla, in Jaén, winner of the previous edition.
The capital of Galician rock art thus demonstrates the power of Galician domestic tourism, proclaiming itself as the favorite rural destination for travelers in Spain.
