The Xunta de Galicia has announced a five million euro grant aimed at modernizing and beautifying tourist establishments located along the coast. The measure, announced at the last Council meeting of the Xunta on August 4, is part of the Coastal Plan, which seeks to make economic activity compatible with environmental conservation and landscape care.
Accommodation businesses (such as hotels, campsites, or rural houses) and restaurant businesses (bars, cafes, or restaurants) located in coastal municipalities will be eligible for this grant. The grants will cover three types of initiatives: energy efficiency improvements, digitalization of tourist resources, and facade renovations.
In the energy sector, initiatives to reduce consumption will be funded, such as the modernization of lighting systems in interior and exterior spaces and parking lots. Regarding digitalization, support will be provided for the creation of technological tools, QR codes, and online resources that allow visitors to learn about the destination before they arrive. Beautification will range from the repair of carpentry and roofing to the cladding of perimeter walls, always seeking better integration with the surrounding environment.
The subsidized works must be executed and paid for between January 2025 and June 2026. This call for proposals is part of the recent assumption of full powers over the management of the Galician coastline, following the transfer of functions from the State on July 1.
The grants may reach up to €232,000 per beneficiary, and the official call for proposals will be published in the Official Gazette of Galicia at the beginning of September.
