Turespaña’s Tourism Department in Los Angeles has become the first office abroad to join the Global Network of Religious Tourism Destinations, a step that strengthens the international projection of Spain’s spiritual and cultural heritage in the US market.
This membership is part of Turespaña’s territorial diversification and market segmentation strategy, which sees religious tourism as a key segment for attracting an audience seeking transformative experiences and trips with spiritual meaning. The Global Network will allow for collaboration with international experts, destinations, and operators, as well as promoting campaigns highlighting Spanish sacred routes characterized by their sustainability, authenticity, and hospitality.
In recent years, Turespaña has intensified the promotion of this type of tourism in collaboration with autonomous communities, religious entities, and local stakeholders. The institution has also supported the incorporation of new destinations into the Network and has worked on the conservation of historic sites. The rehabilitation of 39 Paradores, the restoration of emblematic sites along the Camino de Santiago such as San Juan de Ortega, and energy-efficient lighting projects are examples of a strategy that combines tourism promotion and heritage preservation.
Tourism from the United States has maintained an upward trend in Galicia in recent years, consolidating its position as one of the international markets with the greatest growth potential. With this incorporation, Spain strengthens its position as a world leader in religious tourism, consolidating its role as a cultural and spiritual bridge between continents.
