Galicia adds its tourism offering to the new Green Spain Ecotourism Reserve with more than 30 experiences in natural spaces.

  • The Galician community joins this ecotourism program shared with Asturias, Cantabria, and the Basque Country to consolidate the north as a benchmark in sustainability.

Galicia takes another step in its commitment to ecotourism by joining the new Green Spain Ecotourism Reserve, a tourism program that connects four communities in the north of the Iberian Peninsula with a common goal: to promote a tourism model based on sustainability, respect for the environment, and local identity.

The reserve includes more than 30 themed experiences developed in six Galician natural spaces on the coast and inland, and has the direct involvement of more than 100 tourism businesses in the region. These activities range from interpretive routes, wildlife observation, and nature photography, to ethnography, craft, and geotourism workshops.

This project is part of the Green Spain Ecotourism Corridor, financed with EU Next Generation funds, and seeks to establish itself as the largest ecotourism product in Spain. A total of 25 protected areas are participating, many of them recognized by UNESCO as Biosphere Reserves.

In Galicia, the offer is organized around six unique enclaves:

  • Marinas of Coruña and Terras do Mandeo
  • Ribeira Sacra and the Oribio and Courel Mountains
  • Os Ancares de Lugo and the Cervantes, Navia, and Becerreá Mountains
  • Eo River, Oscos, and Terras de Burón
  • Courel Mountains World Xeopark
  • Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park

Galician participation has been coordinated by Turismo de Galicia in collaboration with the Spanish Ecotourism Association. This has allowed for the design of sustainable experiences, as well as the promotion of environmental certification for companies, training and awareness-raising initiatives, and the development of digital promotion strategies.

The official presentation of the Ecotourism Reserve will take place on May 28 in Madrid, at an event that can be followed via streaming through Turespaña’s channels.
