Galicia exceeds the national average in tourism during October, promoting the deseasonalization of the destination

  • Half a million travelers stayed in hotel establishments.

Galicia is establishing itself as an attractive tourist destination beyond the summer months. According to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in October the community registered a growth of 4.8% in overnight stays and 5.6% in the number of travelers staying in hotel establishments, figures higher than the national average, which was 4.7% and 3.7%, respectively.

The tenth month of the year closed with 510,524 travelers staying in Galician hotels, marking the best October in the last 11 years. This increase translated into 923,058 contracted nights, a milestone that reinforces the deseasonalization of the destination.

The growth in tourism demand was accompanied by a 2.5% increase in the supply of hotel beds, which shows an expanding sector. This dynamism especially benefited international tourism, which experienced a notable rebound: overnight stays by foreign tourists grew by 13.2% and the number of international travelers rose by 13.4%. In October, these visitors represented 34% of the total, consolidating Galicia as an increasingly attractive destination for international markets.

Domestic tourism and hotel profitability

Domestic tourism, led by residents of Galicia, also showed positive results, with a growth of 4.2% in hotel nights and 2.6% in stayed travelers. This joint boost from national and international tourists has contributed to improving hotel profitability, which in the first ten months of the year rose 7%.

The Galician hotel sector generated total nominal income of more than 390 million euros in this period, underlining the economic importance of tourism for the community.

A tourism model in evolution

The results reflect the success of the strategy that the Cluster has been betting on year after year, with the aim of deseasonalizing tourist activity in Galicia, extending the high season. The commitment to a sustainable offer adapted to different audiences allows Galicia to maintain its attractiveness at any time of the year, reinforcing its position as a tourist reference in Spain.
