The Galician tourism sector closes the summer with occupancy that reached peaks of 80% in July and 90% in August

The 2023 Galician summer season met the forecasts and closed the month of July with an occupancy level of between 70% and 80%, reaching the highest quotas in August with occupancy percentages of between 80% and 90%. .%. This is clear from the survey carried out by the Galician Tourism Cluster, in which the sector points to good results this summer, which are reflected in an increase in employment and salaries compared to the previous summer.

 

The sources consulted also point out an increase in prices of around 10% and an increase in raw materials of between 10% and 20%, although there are those who point out that these costs could have increased by up to more than 20%.

 

On the other hand, this summer was especially notable for the increase in international travelers, both from already consolidated markets for Galicia such as the British or Portuguese, as well as from the United States, France and Italy.

 

A Coruña

 

In an analysis by area, in the city of A Coruña an occupancy rate of 85% was reached in the month of July and 91% in August. The increase in international travelers stands out, going from representing 20% ​​of tourists in the city of Hercules to 35% this summer, with a growth in British, French and Italian travelers, the latter being a new market for the city.

 

On the Costa da Morte, where the Camino de Santiago continues to have a notable influence on the increase in tourist flow, occupancy figures were around 70% in July and 80% in August.

 

In Santiago de Compostela the occupancy percentage in July stood at 76%, while in August it rose to 82%. The arrival of more and more travelers from the United States stands out, a market that is gaining weight in the city.

 

In Ferrol and the region, the sources consulted are satisfied with the development of the summer season. Furthermore, the Camino Inglés is attracting a considerable number of travelers, both national and international, to this territory.

 

Pontevedra

 

In the province of Pontevedra, occupancy data reached 72% in the month of July and exceeded 80% in August. In the town of Sanxenxo, occupancy was close to 74% in July and 91% in August, with especially positive data recorded in five and four star hotels, as well as in tourist apartments and campsites. Some of the sources consulted in the area point to a reduction in average stays, although professionals are satisfied with the level of consumption in general terms.

 

Lugo

 

In the province of Lugo the occupancy percentage for the month of July stood at 79%, a figure that grows to 90% in August. The sources consulted highlight the importance of the Camino de Santiago in this territory and point out that many of the reservations expected for the month of September are from clients who travel the Jacobean Route.

 

In the Ribeira Sacra the occupancy rate reached 85% in July and exceeded 90% in August. The growth of the Camino de Invierno is favoring the arrival of pilgrims to this area, in which national tourists continue to be the majority.
