A survey carried out by the Galicia Tourism Cluster points to good forecasts, which the sector expects to increase with last-minute bookings.
The highest occupancy figures are concentrated between Thursday, April 6 and Sunday, April 9, days that in some areas reach percentages of 100 %.
The main profile is that of a tourist of national origin or from nearby areas traveling with family or as a couple.
Santiago de Compostela. March 31, 2023. This Easter week starts with good perspectives for the tourist sector, which foresees a level of occupation of between 65 % and 80 % depending on the zones. These are quantitative estimates of a survey carried out by the Galicia Tourism Cluster and in which the different sources agree that it is quite probable that these figures will increase with last minute bookings. In this holiday period it is common for travelers to wait until the last days to organize their trip, something that, according to the sources consulted, became more acute after the pandemic.
The survey indicates that the maximum level of occupation will be registered between Thursday, April 6 and Sunday, April 9, in which in some zones they foresee percentages of occupation of 100 %. As for the origin of the traveler, in Galicia the reservations point to a mostly national tourist and a type of family and couple tourism.
Pontevedra
Regarding the forecast by areas, both for the province of Pontevedra and for the city of Vigo it is estimated that the average occupancy for the whole week will be around 70 %, with higher figures expected between Thursday and Sunday. In Sanxenxo, occupancies of 85 % are being registered for three and four star hotels, a figure that drops to 65 % for the rest of the establishments. The last minute reservations that are being registered in the locality point to a possible improvement of the data in the next days.
A Coruña
In the city of A Coruña they expect an occupancy between 80 and 85 %, being most of the travelers of national origin and commuters. On the other hand, in the Costa da Morte they handle an occupancy forecast of between 40 % and 60 %, although in these dates it is usual that the reservations are made at the last minute and are very marked by the weather. It should be remembered that in this area converge outstanding celebrations that will attract visitors and tourists, such as Easter Week in Fisterra, declared of National Tourist Interest, or the renowned Mostra do Encaixe de Camariñas, as well as other patron saint festivities. In Santiago de Compostela, occupancy rates are 61 % for the city as a whole, a percentage that rises to 100 % in the establishments located in the historic center. In any case, the consulted sources indicate that it is habitual that reservations are produced at the last moment, reason why an increase of the occupation foreseen in the Galician capital is expected in the next days. In Ferrol, where the Holy Week is declared of International Tourist Interest, many establishments (so much the located ones in the city as in the near localities) hang already the sign of complete between Thursday and Sunday. For the rest of the week, figures between 65 % and 75 % are registered, although they can improve conditioned by the climatology.
Lugo and Ourense
In the Ribeira Sacra they expect to exceed 80 % occupancy during the holidays, although this figure decreases when considering the rest of the week. In this area, 3 and 4 star hotels and rural tourism establishments are having special success, with high occupancy figures between Thursday and Sunday. The sources consulted in the province of Lugo also speak of a notable volume of last minute bookings in this Easter Week 2023. The figures vary slightly depending on the area consulted: while the city of Lugo reaches 70 % occupancy, in the Marina Lucense it is expected to be 75 %. On the other hand, Ourense expects an occupancy rate of 80% for these days: the good AVE connections, the influence of the Way of St. James and the interest in inland tourism favor these figures.
