The region is part of the state device prepared for the territories with the highest tourist influx.

Since 1 July, the state security forces have reinforced their presence in Galicia as part of the deployment of Operation Summer 2022 launched by the Ministry of the Interior in the areas with the highest concentration of tourists. Galicia, along with Andalusia, Asturias, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, Madrid and Murcia, is one of the territories that receive the most visitors during the summer season and will benefit from a deployment that aims to increase preventive surveillance in urban and interurban roads, stations, ports, airports, hotels, beaches and campsites, as well as in events that bring together a large number of people.

Operation Summer 2022 will mobilise a total of 2,442 national police officers and 1,187 civil guards in these nine communities, of which 138 and 98, respectively, will come to Galicia. The device will remain active until 31 August and will also allow the fight against cyber-scams in anticipation of an increase in these practices due to the increased use of the Internet to contract accommodation, tourist packages and other services for travellers. In addition, the increase in the number of agents will help to respond more quickly to the public and enhance investigative work.

The Ministry of the Interior explains that this reinforcement has been planned taking into account that the improvement in the situation of the covid pandemic, the high vaccination rates in Spain and surrounding countries, and the gradual lifting of travel restrictions will lead to an increase in tourist activity.

In addition, both the National Police and the Guardia Civil have specific sections on their websites with useful information and advice and recommendations so that tourists can enjoy their holidays with peace of mind and safety.
