A jury chaired by Cesáreo Pardal, president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, decided to award the restoration project of the Portico de la Gloria of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in the Heritage category; the candidacy of the Ribeira Sacra as a Unesco World Heritage in 2021 in the Promotion category; the agency specialising in the Pilgrim Travel Way of Santiago in the Avant-garde category; the Resurrection Fest in the Event category; and the Camino de los Faros association in the Sustainability category.
The recognitions correspond to the five remaining categories of the Galicia Tourism Awards 2019, the winners of which were chosen from more than 160 entries by a jury made up of representatives of the Galician Tourism Cluster, the Xunta de Galicia, the University and the sponsoring companies.
Thus, the jury was composed by: Cesáreo Pardal, president of the Galician Tourism Cluster; José Luis Maestro, director of Galician Tourism Competitiveness; Alfonso Martínez, representative of the Sanxenxo Businessmen Tourist Consortium; Jesús Picallo, president of Solpor, Association of Businessmen of the Way from Santiago to Fisterra-Muxía; Sara Santos, president of the Compostela Hotel Association; Lorena Varela, manager of the Ruta del Viño Rías Baixas; Francisco González, representative in the Cluster by the Asociación de Empresarios de Hospedaje de Pontevedra (ASEHOSPO); José Antonio Fraiz, professor of the Faculty of Business Sciences and Tourism of the University of Vigo; Tomás Abeigón, director of the Tourism Business of Banco Sabadell; and Rodrigo Burgos, director of the MEGA museum: Mundo Estrella Galicia.
More than 160 nominations
“The large number of nominations received shows the very high level of the initiatives that are being implemented for the development and promotion of our region and the consolidation of Galicia as a tourist destination welcoming, innovative, quality and respectful of the environment,” said Cesáreo Pardal, president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, who also wanted to convey in the name of the whole jury and organizing committee of the awards congratulations, not only to the winners but also to all candidates who opted for one of these awards. “It was not easy for the jury to leave out some proposals,” he added.
These awards, some Ara Solis work of artisan José María Mayer Segade and made with the collaboration of Artesanía de Galicia, will be delivered on December 3 at the Teatro Rosalía de Castro in A Coruña along with the correspondents to the awards Scenario (Ribadavia), National Ambassador (Luz Casal), International Ambassador (Hong-jo Chun, ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Spain) and Pionerio (Moncho and Paco Vilas).
