Galicia once again took center stage in the tourism sector at FITUR 2026 with the presentation of ‘Galicia Calidade’, an event that highlighted the quality, sustainability, and growing recognition of the destination both nationally and internationally.
During the presentation, the President of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, emphasized that ‘Galicia Calidade‘ represents not only tourism excellence but also a way of doing things based on care, identity, and collective effort, which is reflected in both the business sector and the cultural and creative spheres of the region.
As an example of Galicia’s sociocultural potential, the recent selection of the film Sirāt to compete for the 2026 Oscar Awards in the categories of Best International Feature Film and Sound was mentioned, a recognition that reinforces Galicia’s external projection from its own roots.
The event also served to highlight Galicia’s tourism model, focused on quality and sustainability, committed to balanced growth that allows for continued appreciation of gastronomy, natural and cultural heritage, and the visitor experience, without losing sight of the well-being of the region and its inhabitants.
Among the projects that exemplify this approach were initiatives such as the Camiño do Litoral (Coastal Way), with more than 1,300 kilometers along the Galician coast, and unique events such as the total solar eclipse next August, which will position Galicia as one of the best places in Europe for observation.
The president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, attended the event, reinforcing the presence of the Galician tourism sector at the fair. The CTG presented its paper, “Architects of Leisure: Professionals of Responsible Tourism”, the day before.
