Galician gastronomy continues to gain recognition on the national and international scene, reaching a total of 20 Michelin stars spread across 17 restaurants. At the presentation gala of the Michelin Guide 2025, held on November 26 in Murcia, Galicia stood out with two important novelties: the incorporation of Retiro da Costiña to the select group of restaurants with two Michelin stars, and the return of chef Áxel Smyth to the listing with his new project, Simpar.
Retiro da Costiña
Located in Santa Comba, Retiro da Costiña is an emblem of Galician cuisine. This restaurant joins Culler de Pau (O Grove) and Pepe Vieira Camiño da Serpe (Poio) as the three Galician establishments with two Michelin stars. The recognition not only celebrates the culinary excellence of its chef, Manuel Costiña, but also his ability to offer a gastronomic experience that deeply connects with the natural and cultural environment of Galicia.
Simpar
The other big news is the recognition of Simpar, a restaurant in Santiago de Compostela led by Áxel Smyth, which regains its place in the guide after the closure of its previous establishment, “Auga e Sal”. The location, close to the Cathedral of Santiago, makes Simpar an unmissable destination for those looking for innovative flavors with local identity.
An expanding gastronomic map
Galicia maintains an impressive repertoire of 17 restaurants on the list. A Coruña and Pontevedra lead the list, competing to be the provinces with the most stars, while Ourense provides two consolidated proposals.

Beyond the stars
In addition to the traditional stars, Galicia was also recognized in the “green star” category, which rewards sustainability. The O Secadeiro restaurant, in the Serra de Outes, stood out for its commitment to the environment, using local products and recovering native varieties such as the Banzas lentellón.
