Although very far from the pilgrims’ favourite itineraries, which are still the French and Portuguese Way, the English Way has managed to attract more followers and has become the third most popular itinerary so far this year, above the Primitive Way or the Silver Way.

With more than 1700 pilgrims in the year, 15% more than last year, the English Way tries to continue gaining positions among the itineraries chosen by those who make the Way of Saint James, 41 thousand so far in 2018. In 2017 a total of 11,300 pilgrims chose this itinerary, still far from the figures for Portuguese or French, which account for almost 80% of the pilgrims going to Santiago.

But the increase is evident in recent years, thanks to the support and promotion of public administrations with actions such as infrastructure improvement, provision of QR codes, promotion of the route in the various tourism fairs or the Spring on the English Way campaign, a promotional initiative of the Provincial Council of A Coruña that is held in the 18 municipalities of the province of A Coruña through which this route passes and had its main event at the fair held in Betanzos, the epicentre of this route.

Conferences
On the other hand, Ordes, Narón, Culleredo (15 and 16 June) and Pontedeume will host a series of participative days of artistic creation around the English Way with the title “Do Camiño Vivido”; while Oroso, Carral, Cambre and Neda will be the setting for the performance of “O Bululú nos Camiños de Santiago”, which will feature the cast of the Fuso Negro Teatro company.
