The hotel demand in Galicia experienced a growth close to two points in January, when it recorded “the highest occupancy rate in the last eleven years,” according to the Xunta de Galicia from data extracted from the INE. These data serve the regional government to highlight the progress in the deseasonalization that has occurred in recent times, consolidating the attractiveness of Galicia outside the high season.

“Tourism demand grew above the Spanish average in the first month to exceed 300,000 nights,” said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In his view, “are the best values of the decade in January and give continuity to the growths recorded in November and December, thus reinforcing the good behavior of demand in low season.

It also highlights the good behavior of travelers, which increased in January by 1.7% compared to the national fall of 1.4%, which allowed to close a positive January, following the line of growth that have marked the last four years. According to these data, improved both in the domestic and international markets, with a growth of 5.3% of trips of the Galicians themselves, which marked a record in overnight stays, 124 thousand, the highest figure in the last decade.

As for international travelers, Galicia is consolidating as an increasingly international destination with a growth of 6.2%, “representing almost 20% of all travelers who arrived, a historic high. In parallel, hotel rates grew in January by 2.3%, leading to establishments to improve their profitability levels by 3% (measured through the RevPAR, the average income per available room), the highest figure of the decade.
